The Farmhouse Weddings in Montgomery, Texas | Ellen Ashton Photography

It has been such a long time since I have blogged. Honestly, I miss it. So, I thought I would sit down and show all you lovelies one of my favorite shoots from 2016.

The Farmhouse "thanksgiving" inspired wedding shoot was one that dreams are made of. We had an outstanding team of vendors who worked hard to make this idea come to life. I adore the idea of a thanksgiving wedding! Gathered together with all your loved ones, celebrating the union of marriage all while partaking in amazing food and lots of laughter... It's kind of perfect! Honestly, I loved working with this talented group of hardworking people and I can't wait to work with them more!

Enjoy!

Northeast Wedding Chapel | Dallas Engagement Photos | Payton and Alyson's Engagement Session | Ellen Ashton Photography

Ellen Ashton Photography. Dallas Wedding photographers. dallas weddings. fort worth wedding photographers. dallas engagement session

I have no words for Payton and Alyson's engagement session.

Ok, that's a lie.. I always have something to say! ;-)

Payton and Alyson's engagement session was so much fun to capture. They really had so many personal touches incorporated into their engagement session that made the love they share sparkle bright in the photographs. The last portion of the session we went to the land where they plan to build their home as husband and wife. How precious is that?! I just love all the thoughtful, romantic and dreamy pieces that went into this session so much!

One of the things I adore about this couple is the genuine love they share for each other. I have known Alyson for almost 20 years and as I went through their film I began to tear up at how happy they are in the pictures and how much Payton just adores Alyson. All the sweet smiles, tender touches and loving glances are just a testament to how truly delighted they are to have each other. Their excitement is so contagious and I absolutely cannot wait for their April wedding!

Congratulations to these two on their engagement. They deserve all the happiness in the world!

Much love,

-E

Rocky Mountain Wedding | Carbondale Wedding | Patrick and Erin's Wedding | Ellen Ashton Photography

" I love you to the mountains and back."

Patrick & Erin's Wedding Day

08.27.16

Last October

I was about to board a plane from Minneapolis headed to Dallas. It was a full flight and as usual, I was looking for kind eyed people to sit next to, because lets face it.. Stranger danger is real and I didn't feel like throat chopping anyone that day. As I was scanning the ocean of people I saw a middle seat open and in the two other seats sat two kind looking women. So, I quickly took the seat. Of course, my massive camera bag did not fit in the cabin above us so the stuartist took my bag to the back. She was extremely rude about a lot of things which in turn got the conversation moving as soon as she walked away.

Sitting to my right was the ever so sweet Erin. She and I chit chatted over the duration of the flight. In the first ten minutes of sitting next to each other I learned that Erin was newly engaged and was going to be getting married in her home state of Colorado. I inwardly (and probably outwardly) smiled and said "how funny, I am a wedding photographer!" Throughout the rest of the flight was talked wedding day details and Erin told me all about her plans to marry her fiancé Patrick up in the rocky mountains.

You know when something just feels right? That's how I felt when I met Erin. She truly is one of the sweetest and most genuine people I have ever met. Long story short, I skyped with Erin and Patrick over Christmas of 2015 and they booked me to be there wedding photographer.

Words cannot express how thankful I am for Erin and Patrick (all my couples really) for letting me be apart of and witness the joining of their covenant in marriage. I can't tell you how many times I teared up during their wedding day. Erin was so smiley and giddy, and Patrick was so filled with emotion every time he looked at her. As a photographer these are things I live for. They literally made my job SO EASY. They lived in each moment as the day passed by, which is clear to see from the photographs. They were relaxed, easy going and just excited to spend forever with one another. Their joy and excitement was contagious in every since of the word.

Erin and Patrick, thank you for allowing me the honor and privilege of being your wedding photographer. Sitting next to Erin on that airplane one year ago was meant to be. I truly believe with all my heart that God doesn't make mistakes, and our divine appointment was no different.

I am so excited to share these beautiful wedding day with you!

Some of my favorite memories to capture are the ones immediately after the ceremony. It is not uncommon for me to walk out behind the bride and groom so that I can photograph their sweet reactions of being husband and wife. There is so much joy and emotion in these faces. It's hard not to love everything about love.

Much love,

-E

A HUGE Thank you to Kaylan Robinson for being such an amazing second shooter. You rock, girl!

Dallas Engagement Session | Jordan and Ashley's Engagement Session | Ellen Ashton Photography

I am so excited to share Ashley and Jordan's downtown Dallas engagement session with y'all!

I met Ashley through a couple I had photographed a few months ago and I knew when I talked to her over the phone that we were the perfect fit! She had me at rooftop ;-)

As most of you know, engagement sessions are some of my favorite types of photo shoots. There is something so precious about the "engagement season" in a couples life that is so joyous and contagious. I love it and I love getting to be apart of it!

I absolutely loved joking, laughing and photographing these two. They made my job super easy as you can tell ;-) The love they share is so sweet and plain to see through each photograph. I mean, can we just talk about these rooftop pictures for a sec?! D.R.E.A.M.Y

I hope you enjoy this session as much as I enjoyed taking them! Stay tuned for Ashley & Jordan's wedding in April!

Much love,

-E

These rooftop pictures are some of my favorite to date! I just can't get over how amazingly cute and in love these two are.

White Rock Lake Engagement Photos | Jasmine and David's Engagement Session | Ellen Ashton Photography

I am SO excited to share Jasmine and David's beautiful engagement session!

I met Jasmine from a Facebook group for entrepreneurs last year and I knew through our email conversations that she was my kind of girl!

Jasmine is the lovely lady behind the amazing fashion, beauty, and travel blog Jasmine Elias (click HERE to view her website).

I was so thrilled and excited when I saw via Instagram that Jasmine had gotten engaged to the love of her life, David.

Photographing these two was literally the easiest things. I, mean, they are literally so precious!

These two are so fun and so incredibly in love. Seeing them interact with each other warmed my heart in so many ways. I always ask my couples how they met and I adored Davids response! He has so much admiration for Jasmine and it's so clear to see through the photographs that the love they share is a deep bond. Seeing people who truly love each other and so excited to spend the rest of their lives together is truly a contagious kind of joy.

It was amazing getting to hang out, joke around, and laugh with Jasmine and David as I captured their engagement photos.

Not even the rain could keep the love they share from shining bright.

I hope you all enjoyed this session as much as I enjoyed capturing it! Make sure to check out Jasmine's Instagram to see all her lovely work! (Click HERE for her Instagram).

Much love,

-E

Fort Worth Texas Surprise Engagement Photos | Dakota and Katie's Engagement| Ellen Ashton Photography

Dakota & Katie's Surprise Engagement

"The man who finds a wife finds a treasure, and he receives favor from the LORD." -Proverbs 18:22

I am SO excited to finally share with you all Dekota and Katie's surprise engagement!

I met Dakota and Katie at our Gateway Young Adults Bible study (the North Ft. Worth campus) and I am so glad that I did!

I was beyond thrilled when Dakota contacted me about photographing his proposal to Katie. As most of you know, I LOVE anything to do with love/weddings and I especially love surprises! So, of course I said yes! I am honored that I get to be apart of this special time in their lives.

The day before Dakota asked Katie to marry him, I met up with Dakota, his sister, roommate and one of Katie's best friends so we could come up with a game plan on how he was going to ask her.

We decided to use Katie's sweet and pure at heart nature to trick her into thinking that she and Dakota 'just so happened' to run into me while I was 'photographing' a friend, and of course Katie bought it!

IT WAS PERFECT!

As I could see Dakota and Katie fast approaching from the back of my camera and heard them call my name, my heart jumped in my throat and all I could thing was O.M.G THIS WAS ABOUT TO HAPPEN.

One of the things that I really love about Katie is that she is just so sweet and genuine. When She realized that it was indeed me she was so happy and came over to give me a hug. She didn't suspect a thing.

I introduced Dakota and Katie to my pretend model/best friend of all time Hillary and told them that " I was photographing her for Instagram material" and if they had a second I would love to snap a few of them as well.

Katie immediately said YES and then said "Dakota, this will be great practice for when we get engaged!" Little did she know... ;-)

I put them in a pose and then said "the lighting is perfect"! Which was kinda a cue for Dakota so he knew I was ready when he was.

It was as if time stood still for a moment.

Dakota began to talk and within a few seconds it hit Katie what was about to happen. Her reaction was so precious and priceless. SHE HAD NO IDEA that Dakota was going to ask her to marry him that night and it was the best surprise!

After the ring was placed on Katie's finger there was a very excited crowd of friends and family shouting as they watch from a birds eye view of what has just taken place. It was so perfect!

I love that my job allows me to be apart of and experience the happy moments in peoples lives. I wouldn't trade it for the world.  Seeing them so happy warms my heart in ways I can't explain. It's amazing!

I hope you enjoy this session as much as I enjoyed capturing it.

Congrats, Dakota & Katie!

Much love,

-E

Weatherford Texas Wedding Photographer | Bryson and Mandy's Anniversary Photos | Ellen Ashton Photography

"When our lips touch, I can taste the next sixty years of our life together."

I am so very excited to share with y'all this fabulous anniversary session!

Anniversary sessions are becoming the new "it" things and I absolutely LOVE it!

It's hard to believe that I have known Mandy for almost nine years. NINE. Are we really that old?!? (insert sobbing emoji face X10). It seems like only yesterday I was a 17 year old kid moving into the college dorms. Mandy was one of the first people that I met at our little campus and she has been a treasured friend ever since.

As I was thinking of what to write, I was reminded of all the many memories and mile stones we have shared over the years. From marrying our spouses, Mary Kay meetings, impromptu Starbucks counseling sessions, hard times and joyous times, business ventures and lots and lots of laughter. Our love for the Lord has always been the heart of our friendship and I am so thankful for that.

I am beyond honored to have captured this monumental years of marriage for Mandy and Bryson on their cozy acreage out in Weatherford, Texas.

My husband came into my office while I was editing and the first thing he said was "wow, they looks so happy and in love."

As a photographer I document moments, laughter, loving glances and precious memories that last a lifetime. I feel like being a photographer/memory keeper is my "life calling" and it brings me so much joy. As I was photographing Bryson and Mandy my heart just wanted to explode! I love that they wanted this time in their lives to be documented on their land, the place that they call "home". Just the thought of them always having this amazing spot to come back to for anniversary pictures gives me goose bumps! Years from now, they can see how their love and family grew via photographs. What a beautiful thing to have!

The love that these two have shared over these past eight years has been a beautiful thing to watch.

It's a little early, but Happy Anniversary, Bryson and Mandy! Y'all deserve to all the happiness in the world.

Much love,

-E

I am SO excited to share with everyone the featured wedding vendor of the week!

As some of you already know, I have been meeting with, photographing and interviewing wedding professionals in the DFW area and blogging about the assets behind the businesses.

This weeks amazing wedding vendor is non other then the fabulous girls at "Something You"!

Shannon and Chantee are some the the funniest hair and make up artist you will ever meet.

Shannon is the owner of Something You and Chantee is her right hand woman. Together these lady bosses rock it out!

I so enjoyed meeting with these two at their cozy studio at the Grit and Gold Collective space.

We laughed, talked business and took some amazingly fun and sassy pictures. I absolutely adore people who love to have a good time and enjoy themselves and these girls for sure know how to do that!

You will love working with Something You! They will bring the perfect balance to those glittery wedding day nerves and make you feel 100% at ease on your wedding day. They are obviously fun, down to earth and yet very professional all at the same time. Above all, they are great at what they do and make their brides feel and look amazing! Who wouldn't want that?!

Something You not only offers outstanding hair and make up services for brides and their entourage, but they also offer super fun classes call Bing Your Own Beautiful. BYOB is custom tailored classes to fit every bride or non brides needs. These classes would make an awesome girls night out! Click HERE to read more about BYOB classes.

Now that you know a little bit about Something You, Let's get to know the owner, Shannon!

Meet Shannon!

Ellen Ashton: Why did you start your business?

Shannon: I had been in Corporate America for what seemed like forever and the bottom fell out of my industry. I'd always been a freelance artist but I'd never had the guts to go out there and make it a career.  Turns out, you get guts when you don't have a choice! It was hard to admit to myself that I should have been pursuing this the whole time.

Ellen Ashton: How did your first client find you?
Shannon: As with most things in my life, through a series of happy accidents. She turned out to be one of the best marketing sources ever because she understood the 'art of the referral' and the importance of word-of-mouth.  That was 20 years ago and she STILL sends people my way for all things BEAUTY.

Ellen Ashton: Do you service Dallas, Fort Worth or both?
Shannon: BOTH! And all points in between.  If you need us, we'll be there!

Ellen Ashton: How do you survive the wedding day?
Shannon: The promise of wine.  And a ridiculously supportive team that takes care of each other as we all get the job done.  And really good arch supports. And also wine.

Ellen Ashton: What is your favorite 2016 wedding trend?
Shannon: My favorite 'trend' has been the return to elegance. A more natural & authentic appearance that stands the test of time. It always made me so sad to see girls with flashback from "baking" their undereye area or brows that look like they were applied with a blunt Sharpie. To look at a bride's pictures and see gorgeous, glowing skin and well executed makeup and hair really makes me happy!

Ellen Ashton: What is the best makeup to photograph?
Shannon: Good makeup, plain and simple.  There are a lot of right ways to enhance someone's beauty but not everyone is trained on how to see it & make it happen.  I encourage my clients & colleagues to educate themselves on what quality makeup artists use, what questions to ask (products, hygiene/sanitation, education, experience, etc) and what it should cost (not $50).  You really do get what you pay for.

Ellen Ashton: Kim, Kourtney or Khloe?

Shannon: If Khloe & Kourtney somehow merged...maybe.  Anyone but Kimye.

Ellen Ashton: Red or white wine?
Shannon: red

Meet Chantee!

Ellen Ashton: Why did you start your business?

Chantee:I started in retail cosmetics in college, 1998. I didn't look at makeup as a career, but a hobby. I went into the corporate world of property management and stayed there until I became a stay at home mom. When the time came for me to find something I loved to do, makeup was the natural choice. This time around I was fortunate enough to have the ability to freelance full time, and I'm loving every minute of it!

Ellen Ashton: How did your first client find you?
Chantee: I was networking in a Facebook group and Shannon found me, from there I joined her bridal team in 2013

Ellen Ashton: Do you service Dallas, Fort Worth or both?
Chantee: BOTH! And all points in between.  If you need us, we'll be there!

Ellen Ashton: How do you survive the wedding day?
Chantee: Knowing that it is the most important day of their lives lets us all be a little more forgiving of the stress that can sometimes happen. For the most part we are very fortunate to have incredible brides, we manage to dodge the (and I hate this term) 'bridezillas'

Ellen Ashton: What is your favorite 2016 wedding trend?
Chantee: Im really loving the easy esthetic, the requests from clients to 'look like themselves', and the clean, natural pallets

Ellen Ashton: What is the best makeup to photograph?
Chantee: Makeup that plays up dimension and looks like you in the very best lighting. Soft shadows, subtle highlights and flushed coloring.

Ellen Ashton: Kim, Kourtney or Khloe?

Chantee: Kourtney. She's always just SO over it, haha

Ellen Ashton: Red or white wine?
Chantee: Champagne.

Kimbell Art Museum | Shannon Rose Event's Photos | Dallas Fort Worth Wedding Planner | Ellen Ashton Photography

Hi Friends!

Last week was a bit crazy for me and I am still trying to recover. Obviously I didn't post a DFW wedding vendor interview last Tuesday because I simply didn't have the time. BUT it's a new week and I am back in the saddle again!

I am so excited to share this weeks featured wedding vendor from Shannon Rose Event's!

MEET SHANNON!

I met Shannon a few months ago and I am so glad I did! Shannon is a very talented wedding planner and is a total rockstar at what she does. What I love most about her is that she is a down to earth, fun loving and genuine person. She is an amazing wedding planner who would be an asset to any couple who hires her.

When I met with Shannon to take a few images for this blog we ended up sitting and chatting for over an hour. I very much enjoy her company and you will too! Her sweet spirit and funny sense of humor will make you adore her even that much more! I truly believe these elements are what make her a darn good wedding planner!

I am so very impressed with Shannon's good attitude and quick thinking skills. I am telling you guys, you will love having Shannon be apart of your wedding day! She is a true gem inside and out!

I have a special place in my heart for wedding planners because they do SO much for each couple to make the wedding day happen. Most of the time the things that they do are way above and beyond and 9 times out of 10 we never even see all that they do. They work long and hard before the wedding and after. Wedding planners do their very best to make sure that every couple has a smooth and worry free day. Who wouldn't want that?!

I can't wait for you to get to know Shannon through her interview, so lets get started!

THE INTERVIEW

Ellen Ashton: Why Did you start your business?

Shannon: When I first graduated college I had trouble finding a full time job in architecture and being an event planner was always something I had in the back of my mind.  After a few weeks I was able to find a random graphic design job and an internship with an event planning company in Dallas.  I knew I wanted to do this full time when I could not sleep the night before an event because I was so excited to get to work the next day and I was not even getting paid ( It was crazy I was driving one hour to her office and one hour back through $10.00 tolls and working 10-16 hour days and still loved every minute of it without making a dime). To be honest I really don’t know exactly why I decided to start my own business it just felt right at the time.  After my year internship ended  I started working for an Architecture firm and I was miserable working (55-60 hour weeks and not enjoying what I was working on) and my husband (a business owner as well) told me…”Why are you working all these hours working for someone else it is obvious you are meant to own your own business and do something you love” and then I decided to save money and just do it.  It was as simple as that!

Ellen Ashton: How did your first client find you?

Shannon: My first client was someone I worked with at my old job.

Ellen Ashton: Do you service Dallas or Fort. Worth, or both?

Shannon: Both

Ellen Ashton: Best advice you could give a bride and groom looking for a wedding planner?

Shannon: Find someone that you feel like you can “gel with”. The wedding planning process is not only stressful for some, but it also involves a lot of trust.  You need to find someone you can trust, let go with, and maybe even have a few laughs with (it is a fun time after all!).  .  This will help relieve some of the stress and you can feel more at ease once you begin the wedding planning process.  You can’t do it all, and the more you let go and trust your wedding planner the more you will enjoy the actual day and all the weeks leading up to the big day.

Ellen Ashton: How do you survive the wedding day?

Shannon: Coffee, LOTS of Coffee & breakfast burritos in the morning

Ellen Ashton: What is your favorite 2016 wedding trend?

Shannon: Pops of bold color with soft tones in florals

Ellen Ashton: What is your most favored color palette for weddings this year?

Shannon: Dusty Blue! I love how it be romantic and modern.

Ellen Ashton: What is your favorite show at the moment?

Shannon: Bachelor & Bachelorette!

Ellen Ashton: Wine or Ice-cream?

Shannon: Wine

Ellen Ashton: What is your most favorite package you offer to couples?

Shannon: My full planning package, it is my largest package I offer and it assures I am able to be more involved in the process.  I assist with design, budget, vendor meetings, timelines, hotel blocks…etc. (you name it and I include it in this package).

Lake Harriet Bandshell Family Session | Ellen Ashton Photography | Minneapolis Family Photographer

I am so excited to share with all of you the adorable and oh so fashionable, Alves family!

Let me just start off by saying, I think this is my favorite family session to date! Although, in all honesty, I love all my EAP family session! There is something so special about seeing a family unit interact and capturing the love they share via film. It's just so heart warming and one of a kind!

I met Brandis (the mom) the very first year I lived in Minnesota and I had the privilege of second shooting a wedding with her last summer. I sent out an email letting all my clients and friends know I was coming to Minneapolis for some summer session. I was thrilled to get an email back from Brandis saying that they wanted to book a family session; I am SO glad they did!

I had an absolute blast photographing Brandis and her sweet family! Her little girl "H" is so full of life and both of her kids are so precious!

I hope you enjoyed this session as much as I enjoyed photographing it!

" Let's do a Zombie Face"-H

"K" had a vision for a posed photo with mom and dad. So, here is a little sneak of him telling them what do to and the photo after was his inspiration. So cute! I love seeing his little minds at work!

I love lifestyle sessions where you see people doing normal everyday things, like going to get ice-cream as family. I just adore sweet and precious moments like this! It's so important to remember your kids at every stage in their life, and lifestyle sessions are a great way to do that! Who wouldn't want to remember how their little loves ate ice cream?!

Thanks so much for checking out the Alves family session!

I will be traveling back to Minneapolis this Fall to photograph more family session just in time before Christmas card season! If you would like to book a session or read more information, feel free to click the buttons below.

Thanks again for stopping by! I hope you have a fabulous week!

Much love,

-E

Todays Wedding Vendor interview is with Briley, from Oh Deery Floral!

MEET BRILEY

I actually heard about Briley's business "Oh Deery Floral" several years ago and have been following her on social media ever since. When I decided to do this blog series I knew that I for sure wanted to interview Briely and show y'all how crazy talented and sweet she is.

I met with Briley in her quaint little studio and we sipped on La Croix's and chatted for hours! I knew that when she had La Croix's in her fridge we were going to be great friends!

I really enjoyed getting to know Briley! She is sweet, kind and a has the heart and mind of a crazy talented, creative entrepreneur.

I loved hearing Briley's passion about floral design and the services she offers to her clients.

As we talked it became very clear that Briley takes great care in providing her clients with beautiful and unique floral creations.

After I saw and heard Briely describe her work the thought came to me that Oh Deery Floral is not just a floral arrangement shop for weddings, but a place that create gorgeous pieces of art work with flowers. I am truly amazed at the outstanding services she offers her clients. If you are a bride looking for a florist, you should highly consider investing in Oh Deery Floral, you will not be disappointed! All of your guests will rave about your florals!

Let's get to know a little it more about Briley and her business!

OH DEERY INTERVIEW

Ellen Ashton: How did Oh Deery Floral start?

Briley: I always knew that I wanted to be an entrepreneur from a young age. I started my "first business" in 8th grade selling vintage necklaces and tried a handful of things before I ended up in college needing an internship and landing one with a floral designer. Honestly, one of the best experiences of my life! The first day there, I was literally just processing the flowers (taking off leaves, thorns, bad petals, etc.) but fell in LOVE and knew that I had to work with flowers. They called my name! I grew a lot there and was so privileged to work with someone who was so willing to teach, share knowledge, and invest in me and encouraged me to continue practicing floral design. Long story short, she had a baby and slowed down a bit with business so I had the opportunity to branch out and do my own thing and the rest is history. I continually feel so lucky that my business has grown and developed the way that it has in just 3 short years!

Ellen Ashton: How did you come up with the name Oh Deery Floral?

Briley:  In college, when I was experimenting with one of my many business ventures (with my best friend and business partner at the time) I needed a name but had no clue where to even begin to come up with one. One of our roommates took all the letters from our names and came up with several different words and phrases and Oh Deery was one of them! It just stuck and here I am - five years later, ha!

Ellen Ashton: What do you love most about working as florist?

Bailey:  Hands down the flowers and color combinations. There are endless combinations and varieties and I still have moments when I see new color palettes that just stop my dead in my tracks. Finding those colors that just work together and make your heart flutter are what it's all about for me.

Ellen Ashton: Where do you find the most inspiration?

Bailey: My favorite place to find new inspiration is walking around plant nurseries! I find that it's the best place to see new unexpected color combinations, shapes, and movement. It breaks up the norm of wedding flowers and gives me new ideas for how to change up what I'm doing with my arrangements. If I'm stressed out during busy work seasons, I'll usually find an excuse to go take at least a 5 minute walk through a nursery. Something about it just relaxes me! I always think that I'll end up working at a nursery when I retire. I'll be the lady with a visor and hose talking to the plants!

Ellen Ashton: What is your favorite flower?

Briely: It changes with the seasons but right now it's spirea.

Ellen Asthon: What is your favorite 2016 wedding trend?

Briley: Dusty blue! I love LOVE blues and greens and have been waiting for the moment that blue would be in!

Ellen Ashton: What is your favorite wedding season?

Bailey: SO hard to choose! But you just can't beat the springtime flowers. Everything is so fresh and happy in the spring!

Ellen Ashton: How far in advance should one book a florist for their wedding?

Briley:  For me, 6-8 months is comfortable for planning for floral.

Ellen Ashton: If you had to pick a celebrity to be stranded on a deserted island with, who would you pick and why?

Briley:  Taylor Swift! I feel like we'd have a lot to talk about and have a lot of fun.

Ellen Ashton: Kim, Kourtney, or Khloe?

Briley: Khloe! I want to be her friend!

Ellen Ashton: Favorite tv show?

Bailey: Game of Thrones!

Ellen Ashton Cupcakes or ice cream?

Briley: Fudgy chocolate ice cream :)

Thanks so much for reading this weeks interview and getting to know Briley of "Oh Deery Floral"! Make sure to check her out and follow her on social media! You will love seeing all her pretty creations!

a&be bridals Dallas Texas Photos | Ellen Ashton Photography | Dallas Wedding Photographers

A&Be Bridal

A.K.A. my favorite bridal store!

I am thrilled to share this wedding vendor interview with you all!

A&be is a bridal salon that started in Denver, Co. and has migrated into Minneapolis and Dallas. As most of you know, my career as a wedding photographer blossomed in Minneapolis, MN. That is where I was introduced to this FABULOUS dress shop. I have been addicted ever since!

Designer: Anna Campbell

Designer: Anna Campbell

As I have stated before, I love a&be! They carry all kinds of fabulous designers and I have had the honor and privilege of photographing a few of them. Because I love this company so much, I wanted to give all you Dallas brides the opportunity to get to know a little but more about the company and the girls who run the Dallas store.

Which; btw, the girls who run this shop are truly the sweetest women you will ever meet! I recently went into the shop to select a gown for a shoot and was blown away by how helped, hospitable, relatable and encouraging these girls are. They truly value and care for their brides! You will not be disappointed by the service or their gown selection!

Meet the a&be babes

DISCLAIMER: “The opinions expressed here are my own and do not necessarily represent the views of a&bé.”

Meet Mandi

Mandi is the manager of the a&be store in Dallas. She is a total doll and so good at what she does! We had so much fun getting to know each other the day I interviewed her and the other girls. It's clear that Mandi truly values the store and her workers. During our chat I learned that Mandi is going to be getting married soon, won't she make such a beautiful bride?! One thing is for sure, she has amazing taste! She showed me a few of her favorite dresses in the store and they were amazingly gorgeous!

Mandi's Instagram: @mandi.e.smith

Mandi's Instagram: @mandi.e.smith

Ellen Ashton: How did a&be start?

Mandi: Our owners Anna and Bre had been in the wedding industry for a while running their first store, anna be. When they started to see a new wave of brides gravitating towards more indie and creative designs they had the idea for a second location that could serve this new need in the bridal industry. With that a&be was born in 2013 in Denver, and has since then grown to Minneapolis and now DALLAS!

Ellen Ashton: What services do you offer?

Mandi: We offer bridal gowns, accessories (sashes, headpieces, jewelry) and veils.

Ellen Ashton: What do you love most about working in a bridal salon?

Mandi: So many things. I love working with my stylists, they constantly keep me laughing and watching them interact with the brides with so much love and care makes me so happy! I also love the numbers and forecasting that goes on behind the scenes. Staying on top of what is selling, what brides are wanting and what is trending and then turning that into a plan for market in New York is so much fun to me! And of course being able to share in such a big occasion for the brides; it's such a special experience to witness a bride find "the" gown!

Ellen Ashton: Who is your favorite wedding dress designer?

Mandi: Houghton - the designer, Katharine Polk, has made a major splash in the bridal industry. Polk's designs are unlike anything I've seen done before in bridal. Houghton speaks to the wild at heart, and the rock and roll spirit while staying true to timeless designs. Spoiler alert - I am wearing a Houghton gown for my own wedding this October :)

Ellen Ashton: What is your favorite 2016 wedding trend?

Mandi: When it comes to wedding gown trends - Texture. Whether that be in the form of embroidered details, floral appliques, fringe, etc. these elements bring just the right amount of interest to the typical wedding dress.

Ellen Ashton: If you had to pick a celebrity to be stranded on a deserted island with, who would you pick and why?

Mandi: Kevin Hart -- any unfortunate situation is instantly made better with a little laughter.

Ellen Ashton: Kim, Kourtney or Khloe?

Mandi: Kendall - I more easily relate to her style, and more down to earth personality. Plus she could introduce me to Gigi Hadid and we could all just be BFF's!!!!

Ellen Ashton: cupcakes or ice-cream?

Mandi: ice cream always!

MEET BETHANY!

Bethany is one of the stylist at a&be and let me just tell you, this girl is truly one of the sweetest and most genuine girls you will meet! Well, all the girls are really! I worked with Bethany on finding a dress for an upcoming shoot and she was such a doll! She was helpful, kind and her taste was on fleek! She has this gift for being warm and truly wants to make all her brides feel special and beautiful. You will love working with her to find your perfect wedding dress!

bethany's instagram: @ bethanyharkins

bethany's instagram: @ bethanyharkins

Ellen Ashton: What do you love most about working in a bridal salon?

Bethany: Our brides and their inspiring visions we get to help bring to life! I think the bride should set the tone for her big day. And I love being a part of discovering what makes a bride feel most like herself.

Ellen Ashton: Who is your favorite wedding dress designer?

Bethany: Tara LaTour - she's a dream! The quality is phenomenal, the dresses are hand made with so much passion, and the designs are each touched with the most unique twists.

Ellen Ashton: What is your favorite 2016 wedding trend?

Bethany: Neckline drama! I love both the deep deep v's and the high high necklines.

Ellen Ashton: What do you think is the best season to buy a wedding dress?

Bethany: Depends your wedding date! We suggest 9-12 months out so that your bridal look truly sets the tone for the rest of your wedding day details and so you have peace of mind and no need for rush orders.

Ellen Ashton: How far in advance should you buy your wedding dress?

Bethany: 9-12 months if possible! We can always happily accommodate shorter engagements the selection might just be more limited.

Ellen Ashton: If you had to pick a celebrity to be stranded on a deserted island with, who would you pick and why?

Bethany: Ryan Gosling - 'cause he strikes me as the type that could actually survive on a deserted island if need be but he's also gorgeous and has a sense of humor. Doesn't seem like a bad situation at all.

Ellen Ashton: Kim, Kourtney or Khloe?

Bethany: Khloe -- 'cause she's funny as can be and makes fun of herself as much as the rest of the world does. I love people who don't take themselves too seriously.

Ellen Ashton: Cupcakes or ice-cream?

Bethany: Tacos! I'm not much for the sweet stuff but I'll take tacos for breakfast, lunch, dinner, & dessert. (:

MEET ASHTYN!

I so enjoyed getting to know Ashtyn! First of all, we share one of the same names so I knew immediately that she as going to be awesome. It's a proven fact that if you have the name Ashtyn/Ashton you are grafted in as a cool kid for life. I love her free and adventurous spirit! I think that's what makes her such a great stylist! I saw her in action helping a customer and she pulled some amazing dresses that were so flattering to the bride who tried them on. This girl for sure has it going on!

ashtyn's instagram: @ashtynstringer

ashtyn's instagram: @ashtynstringer

Ellen Ashton: What do you love most about working in a bridal salon?

Ashtyn: Being apart of making someone's dream come true is pretty rad. I also love working with our close knit team and meeting new people all the time.

Ellen Ashton: Who is your favorite wedding dress designer?

Ashtyn: Rue De Seine. First of all, its a husband and wife duo who kinda tackle different parts of the biz, which is just precious. I relate to their spontaneous life and her off-beat style, making her number one in my book!

Ellen Ashton: What is your favorite 2016 wedding trend?

Ashtyn: I am a flowerchild. I LOVE seeing what florists make happen! From floral installations, to crazy bouquets, to flower crowns-- I am constantly in awe!

Ellen Ashton: If you had to pick a celebrity to be stranded on a deserted island with, who would you pick and why?

Ashtyn: Ellen Degeneres. Because she's hilarious. and I can build the fire.

Ellen Ashton: Kim, Kourtney or Khloe?

Ashtyn: I don't really Keep Up With the Kardashians...

Ellen Ashton: cupcakes or ice-cream?

Ashtyn: uh. both?

MEET VICTORIA!

Last, but certainly not least, is Victoria! Victoria greeted me as I walked in to the store to interview the babes and she was so welcoming and heartfelt. I absolutely love that about her! She has a super cute style (I secretly or not so secretly want her hair!) and personality to go with it. She made me laugh quite a few times which made for a fun interview! Just like all the other stylist, Victoria is so good at what she does! As we walked through the store and talked I could tell that she is a great help to the brides she works with because of her sweet, funny and helpful nature. You'll love working with her!

Victoria's instagram: @ victoriaexplores

Victoria's instagram: @ victoriaexplores

Ellen Ashton: What do you love most about working in a bridal salon?

Victoria: Helping brides find their gown for their big day! This is my absolute favorite thing! I love seeing people happy and helping take off the huge pressure of finding "the one". <3

Ellen Ashton: Who is your favorite wedding dress designer?

Victoria: Well, we are all big fans of Rue De Siene here. We were already big fans and then we met the designers and fell in love even MORE with their sweet love story and how they started their company. I am a big fan of their gowns as well! The first wedding gown I ever tried on was Rue De Siene. So I feel like I have an allegiance of sorts to them.

Ellen Ashton: What is your favorite 2016 wedding trend?

Victoria: I love the minimalist bridal look! White, greenery, and a touch of gold. It's lovely! Intentional little details, those get me.

Ellen Ashton: If you had to pick a celebrity to be stranded on a deserted island with, who would you pick and why?

Victoria: Christian Bale! First off, he is batman..so he could get us off the deserted island (i'm sure). Then he is just very intriguing, so we would always have something to talk about. Also, strangely enough I just feel like we could be best friends.

Ellen Ashton: Kim, Kourtney or Khloe?

Victoria: I don't really care or know much about the Kardashians!!

Ellen Ashton: cupcakes or ice-cream?

Victoria: I SCREAMM FOR ICECREAAAMM! Ice cream. every.day. Anything Ben&Jerrys - more specifically.

One things is for sure, these girls are full of life and are rock stars at what they do.

Brides, you will LOVE shopping with them to find the perfect dress you have been dreaming of your whole life.

Bishop Art District Engagement Session | Brent and Carley's Engagement Session | Ellen Ashton Photography | Dallas Wedding Photogrtapher

Brent And Carley's Downtown Dallas Engagement Session

I am so excited to share with you guys this precious engagement session taken right in the heart of Dallas.

I met Brent and Carley via the internet and met up with them for coffee to discuss taking their engagement photos. I knew instantly that I for sure wanted to be apart of and capture this special time in their life.

I enjoyed hearing all about their wedding day plans as we sipped on coffee and chai tea. This is such a treasured season in life and getting to hear all their preparation for when they become one makes my heart smile with joy!

These two are truly the cutest and the sweetest!

Their genuine love for each other shines in each photograph. I LOVE it when couples are relaxed and themselves in front of my camera and these two were just that.

We photographed the first portion of Brent and Carley's engagement session in the Bishop Art District. This part of town is a vibrant little neighborhood filled that all types of art galleries, boutiques and my personal favorite, emporium pies!

Enjoy!

PART TWO

I love it, I repeat, LOVE IT when couples choose to have a casual look and a dressier outfit for their engagement session.

Part two of Brent and Carley's engagement session is to die for! I absolutely adore the romantic setting of a city skyline and that dreamy glow from the sun. BUT most of all I love the twinkle in their eyes. It just gives me all the feelings!

I just can't get over how sweet they look! Aren't they just adorable?? I can't get enough!

Sometimes the last few snaps on my camera are my favorite.

We were about to part ways, but decided to snap a few more images agents this baby blue wall, and I am so glad we did. This is exactly what I love about being a photographer. Taking those last few impromptu shots really completed this beautiful, authentic and romantic engagement session. I always say, "the best images are the ones that just happen." This statement still rings so true.

As always, much love and many blessings,

Gold Dust Vintage Rentals | Dallas Wedding Photographer | Ellen Ashton Photography

I am so excited to share this weeks Q&A interview with y'all!

As most of you know, I am doing a interview/blog series on wedding vendors in the Dallas and Fort Worth areas.

I am elated to share with you this weeks featured wedding vendor, Gold Rust Vintage Rental Company!

Gold Dust is a family owned business that provides all types of gorgeous furniture pieces and vintage nicknacks for any type of occasion. Weddings, birthdays, parties, and photo shoots are just a few examples.

Walking into the Gold Dust warehouse was like walking into a fairy tale! They rent any thing from portable bars, settees, chairs, tables, candle sticks, and so much more! Their warehouse is filled to the brim with beautiful inventory to make your wedding day or event look even better than you imagined!

Meeting the Gold Dust Dolls was an absolute pleasure! They are sweet, sassy, kindhearted and family centered, my favorite kind of people!

So, lets meet the girls behind the business!

THE GOLD DUST SISTERS

Gold Dust is made up of two sisters who make a pretty kick butt team! Seeing their family dynamic work in their business is absolutely amazing and inspiring.

We sat on this adorable settee for a good hour just talking about life, business and everything in between. These thoughtful women are hard working, professional yet relatable moms who rock at being both lady bosses and super moms.

Anyone who rents from Gold Dust will walk away feeling energized, excited about their event and feeling like they made a new friend. That's how good Gold Dust's services are!

Let's get to know the girls a little more!

MEET MEGAN!

Megan is the oldest of the Gold Dust sisters and she is truly full of life and one of the funniest and sweetest people you will ever meet! Something that I truly admire about Megan is her dedication to her family and her work. It's not easy being a mom and business owner but this girl does it with such grace and ease!

MEET RACHEL!

Rachel is the middle sister of the Gold Dust girls, and just like Megan she possesses the same funny bone and genuine heart. Something that I love about Rachel is her eye for design. Rachel is the one who came up with this adorable settee and side table set up in these images and it's absolutely to die for! She can definitely help you pick just the right pieces to make your event sparkle!

THE INTERVIEW

Ellen Ashton: Why did you start your business?

Gold Dust Girls: We started Gold Dust on a whim after getting a gentle nudge from one of our favorite planners, Lucia Bitnar. Rachel’s father-in-law built and designed Aristide in Mansfield and we ran the business for 3 years so we had already been in the industry before Gold Dust was created. We have always been antiquers with a knack for parties and southern hospitality and realized there was a need for vintage rentals and styling.

Ellen Ashton: How did your first client find you?

Gold Dust Girls: Since we were already in the industry we had several “friendors” that were very helpful in referring Gold Dust and spreading the word. Joining several organizations and being from the metroplex also helped us grow.

Ellen Ashton: Do you service Dallas, Fort Worth or Both?

Gold Dust Girls: Gold Dust will travel around like the Clampetts to anywhere your heart desires!

Ellen Ashton: What is your favorite 2016 trend?

Gold Dust Girls: We love how you can mix vintage into so many looks and that creating a juxtaposition of glam, industrial, modern and elegant is totally perfect!

Ellen Ashton: What is your favorite color palette for weddings this year?

Gold Dust Girls: All day, every day, anything with Gold is going to make our hearts flutter! It’s basically a neutral that gives a huge impact and can go modern but will always have a timeless look.

Ellen Ashton: If you had to pick a celebrity to be stranded on an island with, who would you pick and why?

Rachel: well how hypothetical is this,  am I married? If no then Ryan Gosling if I am then someone scrappy like Chelsea Handler

Megan: Reese Witherspoon—she just seems so fun! But really I need to think about it!

Ellen Ashton: Which Real Housewife show is your favorite?

Gold Dust Girls: Do we have to choose? We are such suckers for every single one—although Dallas better step up their game. Squad Goal: Lisa Vanderpump’s closet!

Ellen Ashton: Wine or Ice Cream

Gold Dust Girls: Hands down wine—unless we drank too much wine and we can only handle ice cream!

Gallery One Eleven Wedding Photos || Leesville Louisiana || Cal and Tera's Wedding Photos

I am so excited to share Tera and Cal's Gallery One Eleven Wedding Photos with y'all!

It has been a little over a month since Cal and Tera said "I do". These two promised their lives to each other at a precious little art gallery right in the heart of Leesville, Louisiana.

Tera and Cal's wedding could not have been more perfect!

The night before the wedding the forecast told us that April 30th had 90% chance of rain. We prepared as much as we could to do all photos in doors.

However, God heard our prayers and the heavens opened just in time for photos and I am so glad it did!

I am always so honored when I get to photograph a wedding. It's such an intimate day and getting to capture those memories for my clients means the world to me, but this wedding was especially special to me.

Tera and I met while in college and were suite-mates for one semester. I have always loved Tera's sweet spirit, contagious smile and love for others.

When I heard that Tera was engaged I was beyond excited for her and elated to have been hired to photograph her wedding.

My Favorite part of the wedding day was Tera and Cal's first look. I fought back tears when these two saw each other for the first time on their wedding day.

Words cannot express how happy I am that my dear friend is now married to the love of her life.

Congratulations, Cal and Tera! May your marriage always be sweet and richly blessed

Much love,

-E

Cal and Tera exchanged letters to each other during their first look. Tera's letter was a book of notes that she has been writing to her future husband before she met Cal. You can go ahead and grab your tissues. You're going to need them!

I am so excited to share with y'all a little project I have been working on these past few weeks.

For a while now I have been thinking of doing several blog posts featuring wedding vendors in the Dallas & Fort Worth area.

So, that's just what I am going to do!

For the next few weeks I will be posting blogs with Q&A style interviews of wedding professionals in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

Kicking off our blog series is the lovely and oh so talented, Whitney Bailey.

Meet Whitney!

Whitney is the owner of Chic Fleur Weddings and Event's in Dallas, Texas.

Whitney welcomed me to DFW with open arms and I am convinced that her warmness and fun loving spirit is what makes her a top notch wedding planner and coordinator.

One of the things that I love about Whitney is her genuine heart and amazing organization skills!

It's clear to see that Whitney loves what she does and because of this she provides her clients with phenomenal services.

Whitney is most certainly an assist to any bride and groom who hires her!

So, lets get to know Whitney!

Ellen Ashton: Why Did you start your business?

Whitney: I’m a firm believer in “do what you love” and that is exactly what I did! With a background in design and the love for people and hospitality, I thought I would give weddings a try. I love the idea of creating an event that brings two people together and is one of the most special days in their lives.

Ellen Ashton: How did your first client find you?

Whitney: I think my first client found me on theknot.com. I was also very lucky to have family and friends support me and refer me to anyone they knew was getting married.

Ellen Ashton: Do you service Dallas or Fort. Worth, or both?

Whitney: We will travel wherever our bride wants to get married. A majority of our brides get married in Dallas but we do have some Fort Worth brides. We also have a few destination weddings on the books for 2016/2017 and we are so excited for this!

Ellen Ashton: How do you survive the wedding day?

Whitney: With the perfect timeline, some fantastic vendors and a Venti coffee I am good to go!

Ellen Ashton: What is your favorite 2016 wedding trend?

Whitney: My favorite 2016 trend is the “garden look”. I am all about a lush floral garland for your head table and lots of greenery.

Ellen Ashton: What is your most favored color palette for weddings this year?

Whitney: I am loving the combo of lavender ivory and greenery.

Ellen Ashton: What is your favorite television show?

Whitney: I am a huge Grey’s Anatomy fan and The Bachelor fan!  I have been watching both shows since the beginning so I will forever be a far.

Ellen Ashton: Wine or Ice-cream?

Whitney: For sure wine (specifically a good Cabernet). Although what’s this I hear about ice-cream wine? I need to try this!

Ellen Ashton: What is your most favored package you offer to couples?

Whitney: My favorite package is of course our Full Planning in addition to our Design Package. I love getting to know the couple and being able to insert pieces into their wedding that resemble them. With a huge passion in design I love to help create an unimaginable experience for both the couple and their guests.

Wedding planners/coordinators work hard behind the scenes before and during the wedding day. They keep you on budget, find you good deals and hustle months before and during the wedding day. They insure that you get to experience your dream wedding and get to soak up every special moment with your family and friends. Who wouldn't want this?!

Let me just tell you, it takes a village to make a wedding day happen and a good planner like Whitney is key for a smooth wedding day.

Each and every wedding vendor is SO IMPORTANT. I hope this blog series will help brides of all kinda find the perfect vendor for them!
